Public Square Group offers skateboard lessons at Lakewood Skatepark. Our lessons are designed to introduce new skaters to skateboarding, skatepark etiquette, and to build self-confidence.
Young kids new to skateboarding
Balancing, rolling, butt-boarding, coffins, carving, wheelies
Helmet and skateboard.
The youngest new skaters learn the thrill and confidence that comes from riding a skateboard. Skaters will be part of a small group of similarly skilled skaters and feed off each other to build confidence while counselors make sure try things within their abilities.
Young skaters who cannot ollie yet
Skatepark etiquette, carving, pushing, kick-turns, ramps, 360s, drop-offs, beginning the ollie and more.
Skateboard and helmet
Skaters learn more skills and confidence at the skatepark. Skaters determine their own direction and PSG counselors help them attain more control and skatepark etiquette. Skaters may start to learn to ollie and are encouraged to make up their own maneuvers and work on skills they enjoy most.
Any skater who can already ollie
Higher ollies, flat ground flip tricks, bank ramp tricks, transition tricks and ledge tricks.
Skateboard and helmet
Skaters get very specific examples and advice on advanced tricks they are interested in learning. Flip tricks, ledge and manual tricks or pretty much any trick or skill that you would like some help with.

Counselors are local skateboarders with between 5 and 20 years of skateboarding experience who are eager to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with new skaters. Each PSG Skate Counselor will work with up to 3 skaters at a time and give advice, tips and feedback to help each skater progress and learn the skills he or she is interested in.
There are no “drills” or forced curriculum. Only careful encouragement and support behind each skater’s self-motivation. Creativity and individuality are fostered and encouraged as each skater figures out what kinds of tricks or style bring the most fun for them. Skaters of similar skills get together and skate and learn from each other and have a great time.

Lesson Sessions are one day a week for 5 weeks and run from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Lessons may be any weekday or Saturdays. You may request days that work best but we will set up the schedule to accommodate as many skaters as we can.
